Guides accompany tourist groups, impart knowledge and ensure an informative and entertaining experience. They offer various types of guided tours in the city, in the countryside or in a specific region. Depending on their specialisation, the focus can be on cultural, historical or scenic tours, monuments, museums or special places and tourist attractions. They inform the participants in a generally understandable way, e.g. about characteristic features, historical facts or political backgrounds and answer questions from the group. Tour guides can also offer their tours in foreign languages. 

Tips: Although tips from tourist guides are exempt from wage and income tax, they increase the contribution base for social insurance. We therefore have to keep records of the tips received. Therefore, please contact your advisors.

In Austria, formal training and a qualification examination are required to work as a certified tourist guide.

For employment at Smart, please provide us with your certificate of competence. 

You do not need to have a trade licence to work for us as a tour guide.
